Blackburn Station is located on Railway Road, southeast of Blackburn town centre, Lancashire, west of the River. Blackburn train station is the only mainline train station in Blackburn, serving 1.32 million passengers in 2019/20 with 90,000 interchanges. There are four platforms at Blackburn Train Station; platforms 1-3 are the main platforms with a ticket office, waiting room, toilets and outdoor seating. Platform 4 is separate from the other platforms with a heated waiting room and outdoor seating.

Blackburn Train Station is managed by Northern Rail, which operates all trains departing from and arriving at Blackburn Train Station on the East Lancashire Line, Caldervale Line, and Ribble Valley Line. Intercity trains from Blackburn Train Station go to Manchester Victoria, Blackpool North, and York, with regional trains travelling to Clitheroe, Rochdale, and Preston, among other destinations.

Blackburn Train Station was opened in 1846 when the Blackburn and Preston Railway launched. The first of two major upgrades to Blackburn Train Station ended in 1852, with the second completed in 1888.
