The station was initially opened in 1929 by the Southern Railway as the Atlantic Park Hostel Halt; however, it was subsequently closed in the 1950s. South Western Railway manages the train station and is one of the operators that run National Rail Services to the station from stations such as London Waterloo, Bournemouth, and Salisbury. CrossCountry operates services to the airport from Manchester Piccadilly and Birmingham New Street, while Great Western Railway and Southern also operate services to the airport.
