Trains to York Station

York Station is situated in the city of York, North Yorkshire. York Station is on the southeast side of the city centre, just below the River Ouse. York Station is the only mainline station in the city and the busiest station in North Yorkshire, serving 10.09 million passengers in 2019-20.

Network Rail owns York Station, and London North Eastern Railway manage it. London North Eastern Railway also run most intercity services from the station. In the book, Britain's 100 Best Railway Stations, York Station was one of only ten stations to be awarded five stars.

The original York Railway Station was opened in 1839 by York and North Midland Railway in a temporary wooden building outside the city walls. The current station was opened in 1877 and, with 13 platforms at that time, was the biggest station in the world.

York Station has 11 platforms, though it had as many as fifteen at one point. Platforms 1 to 9 are inside the station, with platforms 10 and 11 outside the main station. All the platforms except 9 to 11 are under the large, curved, glass and iron roof.
